The Shrikhand Mahadev Peak Trek is one of the toughest yet most amazing treks in Indian Himalayas. Located in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, this trek is a dream come true for experienced trekkers who want adventure and spiritual satisfaction. Standing at an altitude of 5,227 meters (17,150 feet) Shrikhand Mahadev is believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva and attracts pilgrims and adventure seekers both.
Best Time to Visit Shrikhand Mahadev Trek
The best time to do Shrikhand Mahadev Trek is in July and September when the annual pilgrimage (Yatra) takes place. The weather is stable and the trail is open for devotees and trekkers. Winters and monsoons are not recommended as the trek is very dangerous due to heavy snowfall and landslides.
How to Reach Shrikhand Mahadev :
By Air: Nearest airport is Bhuntar Airport (Kullu), 165 km from the base village.
By Train: Nearest railway station is Shimla or Chandigarh.
By Road: From Chandigarh or Shimla, you can take a bus or taxi to Jaon village, the starting point of the trek.
Difficulty Level of Shrikhand Mahadev trek :
This trek is extremely difficult and suitable only for experienced trekkers and fit individuals. The route is steep, rugged and you have to cross glaciers, rocky terrain and narrow ridges. You will have to cover almost 32 km one way with significant altitude gain testing your endurance and strength.

Cardio Training: Do running, cycling and stair climbing to build stamina.

Day1 : Trek from Jaon Village to Thacdu Campsite
We will wake up early in the morning and after a hearty breakfast, we will start our trekking trip from Jaun and we will pass through dense forests and rivers which have their charm. As we gain altitude, we will begin the acclimatization process which is one of the most important parts of trekking. We will soon reach an altitude of around 11,300 feet where we will set up our camp at Thachedu. As we move ahead, we will take frequent breaks in between as we are at a high altitude and this will help us to relax. By late afternoon, we will reach Thachedu which is one of the most serene and clear peaks here. We will spend the evening here with some fun banter, games, and some hot and hearty food and finally go for a peaceful sleep to regain our energy for the next day.
Day2 : Thacdu to Bheemdwar via Kali Ghati
After breakfast, we will bid a final goodbye to Thachdu and move towards Bhim Dwar which is our next destination. While heading towards Bhim Dwar, we will pass through Kali Ghati which is a majestic peak known for its beauty and view. One of the best things about Day 3 that you will feel is that as you keep going deeper and further, you will encounter some of the best views of your life which are filled with flowers, mountains, and waterfalls. We will stop for our lunch by noon where you can also take some rest amidst the beauty of nature. After recharging ourselves, we will keep moving ahead and continue our journey towards Bhim Dwar, and on our way, we will face beautiful golden sunlight before we finally reach Bhim Dwar where we will set up our camp and tents for the night.
Day3 : Bheemdwar to Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra & Return
The Third day of the trek is going to be the most special and auspicious day for us. Today we will be visiting Shrikhand Mahadev which is set in nature amidst the Himalayan peaks. It is going to be a challenging day and hence we suggest you have a light breakfast before heading towards your destination which will be a bumpy road. The journey to Shrikhand Mahadev requires a lot of determination and positivity, however, as you move forward, you will be mesmerized by the beauty of nature. As you continue moving forward, you will find a lot of devotees on the way with a lot of energy and enthusiasm on their faces. You can also join them if you wish. Finally, we will reach our final destination for the day, where you will feel closer to nature as well as the divine power. We will perform some rituals, prayers, and devotion here and after the darshan, we will move towards our camp at Bhim Dwar and finally sleep for the day.
Day4 : Bheemdwar to Thacdu via Kali ghati
As you wake up in the morning, you will feel a sense of accomplishment and confidence from the past few days amidst nature. You will feel refreshed and recharged once again. So, today after a hearty breakfast, we will bid a final goodbye to Bhedawar and begin our journey back towards Thachedu. On the way, we will pass through the famous Kali Ghati once again. Now, it is time to enjoy the beauty of nature once again. You can keep going and capture some great pictures along the way that will be your lifelong memories. We will stop for lunch in the afternoon where you too can recharge and refresh yourself. We will reach Thachedu by late afternoon where we will spend some last moments together at the campsite. Spend some time with your fellow travelers and have a good night’s sleep amidst the beauty of the Himalayas
